Who we are

FindSolar.ca is an independent guide to residential solar in Canada. We publish research, calculators and an installer directory, and we operate a quote request service that connects homeowners, business owners and farm operators with solar installers who serve their area. This policy covers the information handled on this website. Details about the site operator are on the imprint page.

What we collect

Information you give us. When you submit a quote request or an installer form, we collect what you enter: typically your name, email address, phone number, property address or postal code, and details about your property and project, such as roof type and your average power bill. We do not ask for financial account details, and you should not include them in any form.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting keeps routine technical logs, such as IP address, pages requested and browser type, used for security, rate limiting and keeping the site working. The site does not require accounts and does not use advertising trackers.

How we use your information

We use what you submit to operate the service you asked for: matching your quote request with solar installers who cover your area, responding when you contact us, maintaining and improving the site, and preventing abuse. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

Sharing with solar installers

This is the heart of the service, so here it is plainly. When you submit a quote request, you are asking us to share the information in that request with solar installers who serve your area so they can contact you with quotes. Those installers may reach you by phone, email or text using the contact details you provided. Installers are independent businesses, not part of FindSolar.ca, and their use of your information is governed by their own privacy practices. We share what you submitted in the request and nothing more, and we do not give installers access to anything else about you.

Service providers

Our forms are operated through a customer relationship platform that stores submissions on our behalf, and the site embeds services such as Google Maps for the installer map and Google Fonts for typefaces. These providers process limited technical data to deliver their function. The satellite production estimate in our calculator sends only coordinates, never your identity, to the European Commission's public PVGIS service through our own server.

Cookies

The site itself works without setting tracking cookies. Embedded third-party services such as maps and the form platform may set cookies needed for their operation. Your browser settings control cookies at any time.

How long we keep information

Quote requests are kept for as long as needed to run the referral service and meet legal and accounting obligations, then deleted or anonymized. Technical logs rotate on a short schedule.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, subject to what the law requires us to keep. Any commercial email we send includes an unsubscribe that works. Submitting a quote request never obligates you to buy anything or to keep talking to anyone.

Security

We limit who can access submissions, use reputable providers, and protect the directory data against bulk extraction. No website can promise perfect security, so share only what the forms ask for.

Children

This site is about hiring contractors for property you own or manage, and it is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we update it here with a new date at the top. Meaningful changes will be visible, not buried.
